Northbridge : chip on the motherboard that controls the FSB and memory. The northbridge is a very important factor in overclocking, especially when running high FSB. The Northbridge is the biggest chip on the motherboard, and is normaly coverd by a heatsink
Southbridge : A chip on a motherboard that controls all onboard devices including the IDE bus and PCI bus. This is identifiable, as it is the second largest chip on the motherboard. They do not normaly come with a heat-sink
